About OLP
Mission
Guided by the Aspirations for Student Learning, the Office for Learning Partnerships leads Student Affairs in creating a learning-centered culture that empowers Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff to live their best lives during and after their time at Virginia Tech.
Vision
OLP uses a strengths-based philosophy to deliver and support co-curricular experiences for students that encourage self-understanding and continual development. Through partnership, coaching, and consulting, we help students design a life they love, and help faculty and staff be more effective educators for the students they serve.
History
Established in 2016, the Office for Learning Partnerships (OLP) serves as a creative incubator for student learning-centered practice at Virginia Tech. The department’s name comes from Marcia Baxter-Magolda's work on Self-Authorship, a student development theory grounded in learning as a creative partnership where the learner and the teacher, coach, or mentor both participate in an exchange of leading and supporting each other. OLP has been a critical piece of the ExperienceVT movement on campus, as well as advancing the Aspirations for Student Learning and Strengths-Based Learning at Virginia Tech.
